Carnaross continued their fine league form with a home win against local rivals St Michaels.
Carnaross 2-12 St. Michaels 0-12
A League (Division 2)
Played in Carnaross – 19/5/2019
The visitors were much sharper in the opening half, however, and raced into a three point lead before Frank O’Reilly opened Carnaross’ account with a placed ball. St Michaels kept their noses in front though as Carnaross struggled to get up to the pace of the game. Points from Stephen Flattery and O’Reilly (2) helped close the gap but the Michaels continued to convert their chances. Carnaross finished strongly with a point from Dermot McGee and a fine solo effort from Patrick McDermott after selling a delightful dummy leaving the home side trailing by 3 at the break, 0-9 to 0-6.
After their lacklustre effort in the first half, Carnaross came flying out of the blocks in the second. Cillian Comaskey dropped back to midfield and helped the home side gain the upper hand around the middle while the Carnaross backs tightened up considerably. Half time substitute John L McGee swung the game in Carnaross’ favour getting the game’s first goal before earning a penalty after being brought down when through on goals. O’Reilly made no mistake from the spot and although St Michaels did respond with three points they could not force their way back into the game. Carnaross controlled possession in the closing stages and points from Peter Carpenter and McDermott ensured a six point win on a score line of 2-12 to 0-12.
The win keeps Carnaross' promotion hopes alive as they sit two points off the top of the table with four games left to go.
