BFL R1: Impressive start to life in Division 4

BFL R1: Impressive start to life in Division 4

Carnaross’ blend of youth and experience was enough to see them over the line against a spirited Seneschalstown side.

Carnaross 3-13 Seneschalstown 1-11

B League (Division 4)
Played in Seneschalstown – 23/2/2019

Carnaross gave first competitive starts to 4 players that were minor last year and they impressed throughout the hour. Daniel Roche romped forward on numerous occasions creating a number of scoring opportunities despite lining out as corner back. Shane Yore’s pace was a constant threat throughout and he helped himself to a well-taken point. Luke Gillic’s towering presence in midfield enabled him to claim an impressive tally of marks over the hour. He strode forward to kick a hat-trick of points also. Cormac Yore finished with an impressive 1-1 to his name, due to his keen eye for goal.

The exuberant youthful members of the squad were ably reinforced by the more experienced members of the team. Conor Kenny denied a certain goal in the first half by saving a one-on-one. His heroics continued in the second half with a smart penalty save ensuring the hoops controlled proceedings throughout. The Seneschalstown forwards were well marshalled by the veterans Peter Carpenter and Matt O’Reilly.

The assurance and drive of the half back line ensured the North Meath men had a solid attacking base in the form of Pierce Fleming, Stephen Dawson and Cian Gillic. Peter Mullan’s nonchalant, yet combative style, was nicely balanced by his midfield partner, Luke Gillic. Paul Donoghue orchestrated numerous beefy attacks and finished with a brace to his name. The score of the day was left to Dean Connell who daringly lobbed the keeper from all of 30 yards.

Sharp shooters Day and Casserly combined for a total of 1-4 and were constant menaces throughout this keenly contested contest. Day’s goal was especially eye-catching as he beat 2 men along the end line before cooly finishing to the net. To their credit, the Navan parish side, fought valiantly throughout this encounter but were no match for this Carnaross side. But for a number of expert saves from their goalkeeper, this game would’ve been out of sight much earlier.

It was a welcome return to Division 4 in the B League ranks after a 2 year hiatus.
