BFL R5: Carnaross return to winning ways in Dunsany

BFL R5: Carnaross return to winning ways in Dunsany

Carnaross accounted for the challenge of Dunsany with a fine blend of youthful exuberance and wily experience.

Carnaross 1-15 Dunsany 1-8

B League (Division 4)
Played in Dunsany – 16/5/2019

Carnaross had the wind and topographical advantage in the first half and laid siege to the Dunsany rear guard. The ball was kept in hand and the game was taken to Dunsany who simply couldn’t keep with the pacy forwards from North Meath. Sam Reynolds and Luke Gillic dominated the middle of the field with Luke lording the skies with some breath-taking catches. The towering inferno of Richard Mulvey broke through numerous tackles to lay it off to his eager counterparts. Dean Connell orchestrated proceedings by dictating the pace and evading the tackles that came his way. Cormac Yore connected well with 4 frees from the ground after winning a number of them himself. The direct running of Yore, Porter and Casserly was paying dividends with the latter duo combining for 8 points over the course of the hour. At the break Carnaross led by 13 points to 2.

Dunsany came out after the break with all guns blazing and registered 1-4 without reply but Carnaross weathered the storm with a well taken goal by Odhran Farrelly when he broke through the Dunsany defence to fire to the roof of the net. The full back line stood firm throughout, especially Seán Carpenter who led by example in defence with numerous interceptions where he was first to the ball. Dunsany established a firmer grip on proceedings in the second half utilising their superior size but Carnaross saw out the contest comfortably in the end.

This victory ensures Carnaross are back in contention in Division 4 where they play Summerhill next.
