Carnaross enjoyed a comfortable win over neighbours St. Michaels in the opening round of the B League.

The game could not have started any better for Carnaross with Dermot McGee scoring a point from play in the opening minute. The first goal of the game came in the third minute when Rory O’Connor fired to the bottom corner from the penalty spot. Carnaross added two more points from O’Connor before he found the net for the second time after being put through by Stephen Dawson. St. Michaels got their first score from a free in the fifteenth minute. There was only two more scores before half-time with Dermot McGee hitting the target for Carnaross before St. Michaels finished the scoring with a point to leave Carnaross leading 2-4 to 0-2 at the break.

The start to the second-half was a repeat of the first with Dermot McGee pointing in the opening minute and once again Rory O’Connor found the net in the third minute to complete his hat-trick. Substitutes Liam Brogan and Stephen McGrath added a point each to give Carnaross a fourteen point advantage with ten minutes remaining. It was the home side who scored better for the remainder of the game scoring three good points while Carnaross responded with a converted free from Dermot McGee.

Despite leading by five points on two occasions in the first-half, Carnaross were lucky in the end to come away with a draw after a poor second-half showing against St. Vincents.

It was St. Vincents who opened the scoring with a free in the fifth minute but Carnaross settled quickly and Rory O’Connor levelled matters from a free. O’Connor then managed to win possession close to the goals before finding the net from close range. Another two points from Dermot McGee and O’Connor put Carnaross five in front after just ten minutes. St. Vincents hit back with two points but Carnaross restored their lead with Shane Casserly and Rory O’Connor hitting the target. The final score of the half was for St Vincents which left them trailing 1-5 to 0-4 at half-time.

While Carnaross had the better of the first-half, it was the complete opposite after the restart. Two quick points for St Vincents reduced the margin to two points. Dermot McGee scored a point from play for what proved to be the only Carnaross score of the second-half. St Vincents went on to hit three points in a row to draw the sides level with ten minutes remaining. As Carnaross battled to hold on they were very relieved that St. Vincents spurned the few chances that came their way and in the end were lucky to escape with the draw.

Carnaross kept their unbeaten B League run going with a comfortable victory at home to Clann na nGael.

Enda Gillic split the posts in the first minute for Carnaross but the opening fifteen minutes remained tight as both sides traded two points each with Liam Brogan and Rory O’Connor hitting the target for Carnaross. The home side then pulled away with three points from Stephen Dawson, John Carpenter and Ollie Murphy to take a four point lead after twenty minutes. Clann na nGael had the chance to get back into the game but a fine double save from Shane McNiffe in the Carnaross goals resulted in them only scoring a point from the second attempt. Carnaross went down the other end and Enda Gillic took advantage of the new square ball rule by climbing highest to fist the ball to the net. Further points from Rory O’Connor (2) and John Carpenter put Carnaross well in control at the break with a 1-9 to 0-3 lead.

After the restart, both sides hit two points each with Rory O’Connor scoring for Carnaross. John Ward finished off a fine move with a goal after fifteen minutes which put Carnaross out of sight. Enda Gillic added another point for Carnaross before Clann na nGael scored a well taken goal late on. Rory O’Connor finished the scoring for Carnaross to finish off a fine team performance, particularly from the defensive unit who remained solid throughout.

Carnaross kept their unbeaten run going after a last minute point from Liam Brogan snatched a draw following a tough encounter with Kilmainhamwood.

Despite being placed at the bottom of the table, Kilmainhamwood were impressive and led from the start after opening the scoring with a goal in the third minute. They added a point a minute later but Carnaross hit back with Stephen Dawson finding the bottom corner of the net to finish off a fine run. Kilmainhamwood were still in control however and added on three points while John Ward responded with a point for Carnaross before Rory O’Connor reduced the margin to two after fifteen minutes. Both sides went on to exchange three points each with Rory O’Connor, Liam Brogan and John Carpenter hitting the target for Carnaross to leave Kilmainhamwood leading 1-7 to 1-5 at half-time.

After the restart Kilmainhamwood continued to lead the way with two early points. Stephen Dawson pointed for Carnaross but a goal for Kilmainhamwood opened up a six point lead with fifteen minutes to go and the way the game was going it looked like Carnaross were left with a mountain to climb. However, they refused to lie down and a well taken goal from Shane Casserly gave them the boost they needed. Points in the final five minutes from Rory O’Connor and Stephen Dawson left just one in it before Liam Ward popped up with the equaliser in the final minute to complete the comeback. Kilmainhamwood had the chance to win it with a free but Carnaross were relieved to see the effort sail wide.

A stoppage time goal from Ollie Murphy put Carnaross in front for the first time in the game to snatch a late win against Bective.

Bective scored directly from the throw-in and it took thirteen minutes before the next score came, an equaliser from John Carpenter. Carnaross did enjoy plenty of possession but were guilty of hitting nine wides in the first-half and were punished when Bective hit the front again with two points. John Carpenter converted a free for Carnaross with four minutes remaining, but Bective finished strong adding two more points to lead 0-5 to 0-2 at the break.

Carnaross started the second-half well with two early points from Rory O’Connor and Shane Casserly before Bective replied with a point eight minutes in. Two more points from Rory O’Connor had the sides level with fifteen minutes remaining but Bective took the lead again with a goal. A point from substitute Conor Kenny reduced the margin for Carnaross who then had the chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty. However, Rory O’Connor’s attempt was kept out and it looked as if the home side may have missed their chance. Bective added another point which was cancelled by Conor Kenny. With time running out, Carnaross moved Ollie Murphy to full-forward and it paid off when he fisted a long ball into the area past the keeper to give the home side a one point lead one minute into stoppage time. Two more points from Liam Brogan and John Carpenter sealed the deal before the final whistle.

Carnaross were beaten for the first time in the B League following a disappointing performance in Ashbourne.

Carnaross started the game well and had an early three point lead after five minutes with Paddy Dillon, John Carpenter and Liam Brogan hitting the target. The home side hit back with two points before Liam Brogan added another for Carnaross. Don/Ashbourne then took control of the game and went on to hit 2-5 before the break with Carnaross only managing one more point from John Carpenter to trail 2-7 to 0-5 at half-time.

The opening fifteen minutes after the restart were very tight and only produced three scores with John Carpenter pointing twice for Carnaross. With Carnaross fighting hard to get back into the game, Ollie Murphy who was now playing at full-forward scored two points from play and was unlucky not to find the net when his goal attempt rattled off the post. Going into the last ten minutes Don/Ashbourne turned the screw to seal the win scoring 1-3 without reply. Shane Casserly found the net for Carnaross but it was merely a consolation score as Don/Ashbourne hit back with their fourth goal for a deserved victory.

A late ambush from Dunsany denied Carnaross victory after being five points up with quarter of the game to play.

A lively start to the game left Carnaross leading 0-3 to 0-1 after five minutes with points from the O’Connor bothers Rory (2) and Barry (1). Dunsany hit back with two points to leave the sides level after ten minutes. Carnaross went on to dominate the next ten minutes with Ollie Murphy getting the ball rolling with an exquisite point from near the endline. Rory O’Connor pointed a free before Stephen Dawson finished off a fine move by firing to the net after linking up well with Ollie Murphy. Another point from play from Barry O’Connor stretched the Carnaross lead to six points. Dunsany did reduce the margin before the break with three points while Rory O’Connor hit the target for Carnaross to leave his side 1-7 to 0-6 ahead at the interval.

A point from substitute Liam Brogan gave Carnaross a five point advantage with fifteen minutes remaining, but three minutes later the margin was down to one after Dunsany scored 1-1. Carnaross did respond with two points from Rory O’Connor to open up a three point lead for the home side with five minutes left. However, Dunsany who needed a win to qualify for the final finished strongly. First they converted a free before an attempted point dropped short into the top corner of the net to give them a lead for the first time with three minutes to go. They doubled their advantage and as Carnaross went in search of a winning goal they were caught out at the back as Dunsany added another goal in added time.
