Carnaross 1-9 Simonstown 1-5

B League (Division 4)

Played in Carnaross – 3/3/2013

Carnaross made a winning start to the B League after leading from start to finish in a tough battle with Simonstown.

Carnaross started the game well and points from Ollie Murphy and Shane Casserly gave them an early lead. Things got better for the home side when Stephen Flattery found the net for the games opening goal after fifteen minutes. Simonstown hit their first point three minutes later and reduced the margin to a point when they converted a quick free to the net. Brian Comaskey finished the first-half scoring with a point to leave Carnaross leading 1-3 to 1-1 at the break.

Stephen Flattery scored the first point of the second-half but it was cancelled out by a Simonstown point a minute later. Carnaross went on to dominate and kicked four unanswered points from John Carpenter (2), Stephen Flattery and Patrick Smith to leave six points between the sides with fifteen minutes remaining. Simonstown fought back and reduced the margin to three points with two minutes left and they pushed everyone forward in an attempt to get the goal they needed. However, a fantastic Ollie Murphy point from a tight angle sealed a deserving win for Carnaross who got all their scores from play.

B League (Division 4)

Played in Ashbourne – 7/4/2013

Carnaross suffered their first defeat in the B League following a double score victory for Don/Ashbourne.

The opening exchanges were tight and the sides were level on 0-2 each after fifteen minutes with Liam Brogan and Brian Comaskey hitting the target for Carnaross. Don/Ashbourne then went on to dominate the remainder of the half and added on 1-2 without reply to take a 1-4 to 0-2 interval lead.

Carnaross hit back strongly after the restart and quickly reduced the margin to a point after Ollie Murphy pointed from play before finding John Carpenter on the edge of the square who fired to the net from close range. However, Don/Ashbourne responded immediately with two points. The game then went through a fifteen minute period without a score as Carnaross were guilty of spurning many chances that came their way. They were punished as the next score was a Don/Ashbourne goal which doubled their lead. They added two more points before Oliver Farrelly pointed for Carnaross for the final score of the game.

B League (Division 4)

Played in Dunshaughlin – 14/5/2013

Carnaross got back to winning ways in the B League with a comfortable victory in Dunshaughlin where all but one of their scores came from play.

Carnaross started well and were unlucky not to have a goal in the opening minute when Liam Brogan’s attempt struck the post. They didn’t have to wait long for the opening goal with Colm McDonagh netting in the third minute. The home side registered their first point of the game but Carnaross continued to threaten the Dunshaughlin goal. However, Colm McDonagh was denied twice by the keeper, with the second save coming from a penalty. Paul Donoghue added a point for Carnaross before Dunshaughlin scored three unanswered points to level the game five minutes before the break. Carnaross went on to finish strongly with Colm McDonagh, Barry O’Connor and Cian Gillic pointing while O’Connor was also unlucky to see a goal attempt come back off the crossbar. A point for Dunshaughlin finished the first-half scoring to leave Carnaross leading 1-4 to 0-5 at the interval.

After the restart Carnaross took advantage of the breeze and went on to dominate adding eight points without reply with Liam Brogan (2), Dean Connell (2), Barry O’Connor, Brian Comaskey, Alan O’Reilly and Cian Gillic all hitting the target to leave ten points between the sides. Dunshaughlin scored their first point of the second-half with fifteen minutes remaining but Carnaross continued to attack and added two goals in the space of a minute with Colm McDonagh and Liam Brogan finding the net. Carnaross 1-14 Ballinlough 4-10

B League (Division 4)

Played in Carnaross – 20/5/2013

The concession of four goals left Carnaross with too much to do despite a spirited second-half display against neighbours Ballinlough.

It was Carnaross who got off to a better start and led 0-4 to 0-1 after ten minutes with Paul Donoghue, Barry O’Connor (2) and Colm McDonagh pointing for the home side. Ballinlough turned the game around when they registered 1-1 in the space of a minute to take a one point lead. Barry O’Connor levelled matters with his third point of the game but Ballinlough went on to dominate for a five minute spell when they registered 1-3 without reply. Carnaross reduced the margin with a point each from O’Connor and Liam Brogan but once again Ballinlough got through for a third goal to give them a 3-5 to 0-7 lead at half-time.

Carnaross were quickest off the mark after the restart and three points from Liam Brogan (2) and Colm McDonagh reduced the margin to four points. Once again Ballinlough replied with two more points to keep their distance from the home side. Stephen McGrath and Brian Comaskey scored a point each for Carnaross to leave four in it once again but this was as close as Carnaross could get as Ballinlough once again broke away and scored a point which was quickly followed by their fourth goal which put the result beyond doubt with eight minutes remaining. Carnaross did continue to attack and a goal from Liam Brogan along with a point each from Ollie Farrelly and Barry O’Connor reduced the deficit but Ballinlough added two more points before the final whistle.

Carnaross 1-4 Longwood 2-11

B League (Division 4)

Played in Longwood – 27/5/2013

The long trip to Longwood was a fruitless one for Carnaross as the home side produced a dominant second-half display to take the points. Despite the big margin at the end, the first-half was a close affair throughout with only a point separating the sides at the break.

Longwood got off to the perfect start with an early goal which was closely followed by a point. Carnaross did hit back when they were awarded a penalty after a foul on Liam Brogan. Paul Donoghue stepped up to take the spot-kick and made no mistake with a low shot past the keeper. Dean Connell then had the sides level with a fine point from play before Longwood edged in front once more with another point. Carnaross then went on to take the lead with points from Stephen McGrath and Liam Brogan, but the lead did not last as Longwood went on to add three points before the break. Colm McDonagh also pointed for Carnaross to leave Longwood leading 1-5 to 1-4 at half-time.

Once again Longwood started best and were awarded a penalty in the opening moments of the second-half which they converted. This gave the home side the confidence to go on and dominate the rest of the game. They went on to add six more points and also managed to hold Carnaross scoreless for the remainder of the game to emerge deserving winners.

B League (Division 4)

Played in Carnaross – 23/6/2013

Despite taking a two-point lead with fifteen minutes remaining Carnaross failed to capitalise as Bective finished stronger in the final quarter.

The visitors started the game best and opened up a three point lead after fifteen minutes. Carnaross finally got off the mark with a point from Peter Mullan and Liam Brogan added another a minute later. However, Bective restored their three point lead with two more points from play. Carnaross finished the half well with Richard Mulvey and Peter Mullan scoring a point each but a Bective point left Carnaross trailing 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time.

An early second-half point from Ollie Farrelly reduced the margin to only a point but there was no further score until Carnaross were awarded a penalty with fifteen minutes to go. Paul Donoghue took the spot kick and he fired to the top corner of the net to give Carnaross a two-point lead. Played in Carlanstown – 1/7/2013

Carnaross got back to winning ways in the B League after a six point victory over neighbours St. Michaels.

Carnaross got off to the perfect start and had 1-2 on the scoreboard after just six minutes, all from the boot of Paul Donoghue. St. Michaels went on to add two points before Liam Brogan pointed for Carnaross. Both sides then had a goal chance in the space of a minute but both keepers came out on top with a fine save each. Both sides traded two points each in the closing stage of the first-half with Paul Donoghue and Peter Mullan pointing for Carnaross to leave them 1-5 to 0-4 in front at the interval.

Carnaross started the second-half strongly and registered three points in the opening two minutes with Paul Donoghue (2) and Colm McDonagh hitting the target to open up a seven point lead. However, the game was far from over as St. Michaels fought back and added 1-5 over the next fifteen minutes but a Carnaross goal from Paul Donoghue during this period just kept them in front by two points.
