Carnaross made a winning start to the league with eight points to spare over Kilmainhamwood.

The first-half was tight throughout with most of the scores coming late in the half. Carnaross opened the scoring after five minutes when John L McGee scored a point from play. Kilmainhamwood levelled matters soon after before going on to take the lead from a free after twenty minutes. Carnaross finished the half strongly scoring four points in a row in the last seven minutes from McGee (3) and Damian Smith to lead 0-5 to 0-2 at the break.

Kilmainhamwood got the first point after the restart and could have had a goal on two occasions but Cillian Comaskey kept them out. Carnaross responded well and added three more points from John L McGee, Declan Reilly and Damian Smith after ten minutes. Another point from Kilmainhamwood left four points in it with fifteen minutes remaining. Niall McDonnell converted a free for Carnaross and then he linked up well with John L McGee to score the game’s only goal from close range. Declan Reilly pointed for Carnaross before Kilmainhamwood finished the scoring in added time.

Carnaross made it two wins from two with an impressive victory over St Ultans where all but two of their scores came from play.

The home side started brightly and opened the scoring after five minutes. Carnaross responded with Niall McDonnell converting a free but St Ultans restored their advantage with a point in the next attack. Carnaross then went on to take the lead with two points from John L McGee but once again St Ultans hit back to leave the sides level at the midway stage of the half. Carnaross went on to dominate the remainder of the opening period and hit four points from John L McGee, Niall McDonnell (2) and John Ward. St Ultans got the final score of the half leaving Carnaross leading 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.

St. Ultans scored two quick points in the second-half to leave only one point between the sides but two points from John L McGee and John Carpenter restored the three point lead for Carnaross. St Ultans registered another point but Carnaross responded strongly with the full forward line hitting 1-5 without reply. Niall McDonnell got the first point followed by another from Declan Reilly. John L McGee then put Reilly through on goal and he made no mistake hitting the bottom corner of the net for the opening goal. Another two points from Reilly and one from John L McGee put Carnaross well in front with ten minutes remaining. St Ultans went on to add four points but Carnaross were still in control with two more points from Declan Reilly and John Ward before Niall McDonnell finished the contest fisting the ball to the net.

Carnaross produced a very late comeback to share the spoils with visitors Syddan in an entertaining floodlit encounter.

Carnaross started well and led 0-3 to 0-1 after ten minutes with two fantastic points from Niall McDonnell and one from Declan Reilly. Syddan responded well and had the sides level with two frees. However, Carnaross edged in front once again with a point each from Niall McDonnell and John L McGee. Syddan finished the half stronger and three unanswered points gave them a narrow 0-6 to 0-5 lead at the break.

Syddan doubled their lead after the restart but Declan Reilly hit back for Carnaross with a fine effort from play. However, the visitors began to gain control and stretched their lead further. A goal with twenty minutes remaining seemed to put them in full control of the game. Niall McDonnell converted a long range free for Carnaross with ten minutes remaining but Syddan restored their five point lead moments later. A free from Declan Reilly with five minutes remaining ignited the Carnaross comeback. Carnaross then went on to find the net with two minutes remaining when Niall McDonnell gathered a high ball before firing low past the keeper from close range. Carnaross were then awarded a ’45 in the final minute which Niall McDonnell converted before the final whistle sounded.

Carnaross kept their unbeaten run going with a hard earned two point victory over Clann na nGael in a sunny Athboy.

It was Clann na nGael who hit the ground running and took an early two point lead within the first two minutes. However, Carnaross settled quickly and went on to score seven points without reply to open up a five point lead. Niall McDonnell (2) and Cathal Allen pointed from play while Declan Reilly chipped in with four frees. There was only two points in the final ten minutes and both were scored by the home side which left Carnaross leading 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time.

After the restart, Clann na nGael proved more threatening than in the first period and two points reduced the margin to one early in the second-half. Both sides exchanged two points each with Declan Reilly and Niall McDonnell hitting the target for Carnaross. Carnaross then scored a vital goal with thirteen minutes remaining when a high ball into the area resulted in three players including the keeper hitting the ground. As Declan Reilly attempted to point the rebound, his effort dropped short and into the empty net to give Carnaross a four point lead. The game then became very stop-start with a lot of stoppages and the next score didn’t come until Clann na nGael pointed with four minutes remaining. They went on to add another in the final minute but Carnaross had done enough to hold on for victory.

Carnaross lost their first League game when the concession of goals proved costly against table toppers Na Fianna.

The home side scored their first goal in the opening minute but Carnaross responded well with two points from play for Niall McDonnell. Na Fianna then converted three points before Niall McDonnell struck again to leave a goal in it after fifteen minutes. Na Fianna then doubled the margin with their second goal but Carnaross finished the half well adding two more points to trail 2-3 to 0-5 at the interval.

Na Fianna started the second-half well and went on to register 2-4 without reply in the first fifteen minutes. Cillian Comaskey pointed from play for Carnaross but Na Fianna replied with another goal followed soon afterwards by a point. Carnaross scored the last three points of the game through Niall McDonnell (2) and Patrick Nugent but the game was long over as a contest at that stage.

Carnaross got back to winning ways in the A League with five points to spare over Ballinabrackey in very windy conditions.

John L McGee converted a free in the first minute for Carnaross and John Carpenter doubled the lead a minute later, but two points for Ballinabrackey had the sides level after five minutes. Both sides exchanged two points each with Cathal Allen and Shane Casserly hitting the target for Carnaross. Two points late in the half from John L McGee and Niall McDonnell left Carnaross leading 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time.

Carnaross had the wind advantage in the second-half and stretched their lead further with points from John L McGee and Shane Casserly. The game then became quite scrappy and there was no score for fifteen minutes before Ballinabrackey converted a free. Niall McDonnell added a long range free for Carnaross before John L McGee ended the scoring late on.

Carnaross produced an impressive display to claim the points against Bective in a clash between two sides in joint second place in the table.

It was the home side who started brightly and opened the scoring with two early points. But that was as good as it got for Bective as Carnaross took control for the rest of the first-half. Niall McDonnell scored a free from out near the sideline and John L McGee converted a penalty after Shane Casserly was up-ended in the small square. Further points from Charles Brogan and Damian Smith and a fantastic Niall McDonnell goal left Carnaross leading by eleven points. Bective got the final score of the half from a free leaving the score at the break 2-7 to 0-3 in favour of Carnaross.

Bective got an early score in the second-half but following great work from the Carnaross defense to set up an attack, Niall McDonnell punched the ball into the net. Further points from Shane Casserly, Brian Comaskey, Stephen Dawson and John L McGee ended the game as a contest. However Bective never gave up and scored the last two points of the game.

Carnaross suffered a setback in their push for promotion when Ballivor proved to be a thorn in their side for a second time this year.

The opening half was a tame affair and Carnaross took an early lead with two frees in the first ten minutes from Niall McDonnell. Ballivor hit back and drew level before taking the lead after twenty minutes. Carnaross replied with two more points from McDonnell to take a 0-4 to 0-3 lead at half-time.

The sides were met with a downpour of rain at the start of the second-half and the floodgates opened in the Carnaross defence as they conceded 2-1 in the first five minutes. Carnaross did fight back with two points each from Shane Casserly and Niall McDonnell to reduce the margin to two points going into the last quarter. That was as close as it got however as Ballivor continued to find holes in the Carnaross defence and went on to add 2-2 without reply before Rory O’Connor finished the scoring with a late point.

A second league loss in a row leaves Carnaross three points adrift of the promotion places after a heavy defeat away to Ratoath.

The opening period was dominated by the home side who led 2-2 to 0-1 after fifteen minutes with John Carpenter pointing for Carnaross. This proved to be the only first-half score for Carnaross as Ratoath went on to add five more points to lead 2-7 to 0-1 at half-time.

Carnaross did improve after the restart and outscored the home sides 0-4 to 0-2 in the opening ten minutes with John Carpenter, Ollie Murphy (2) and Niall McDonnell hitting the target for Carnaross. Ratoath upped their game again and went on to add 1-3 in the next seven minutes. Niall McDonnell added a point from play for Carnaross who should have had a penalty but play was waved on by the referee. They did find the net with ten minutes remaining when John L McGee finished off a fine move by firing home from close range. However, that proved to be the final score for Carnaross as Ratoath went on to add 1-3 before the final whistle for a fully deserved win with the goal coming from the penalty spot.

Carnaross continued their losing run with a two point defeat to neighbours Drumbaragh.

It was Drumbaragh who opened up a four point advantage by half time to lead 0-9 to 0-5. The Carnaross scores came from John L McGee (2), Patrick Nugent, John Carpenter and John Ward.

Carnaross outscored Drumbaragh in the second-half with four points from John L McGee and a ‘45 from Niall McDonnell but the visitors did enough to stay ahead and claim a two point victory.
