Minor League (Division 5)

Rathkenny proved too strong for Carnaross in the first round of the Minor League played on St.Patricks day.

An early goal for the home side was followed with a couple of points. Charles Brogan replied with a point from a fifty, and following points from John Ward, John Carpenter and Charles Brogan again, Carnaross went in at half-time trailing by three points, 1-4 to 0-4.

Rathkenny got the first couple of scores in the second-half to stretch their lead but Carnaross did not give up. Cian Gillic scored a great long range point, and further points from John Carpenter, Charles Brogan and John Ward reduced the Rathkenny lead to just 4 points with time almost up. In the final attack from Carnaross, John Ward was taken down in the square and Charles Brogan scored a goal from the resulting penalty to leave just a point between the teams. However the referee blew the final whistle on the kick out to leave Rathkenny the winners by a point.

Best for Carnaross were Cian Gillic in defence, Charles Brogan at midfield and John Carpenter and John Ward in attack.

Carnaross 3-11 Oldcastle 1-6

Carnaross proved too strong for Oldcastle in the second round of the minor league.

In the first-half Oldcastle playing with the aid of a stiff breeze scored an early goal and followed this with a point to take an early lead.  However Carnaross began to take control and following some excellent points from play and a goal from John Carpenter they led at half time by a point 1-5 to 1-4.

Early in the second half Charles Brogan had to go off injured and he was replaced by Colm McDonagh. Carnaross reshuffled the team with Michael Brogan moving to midfield from fullback. They took complete control of the game and following goals from Dean Connell and Colm McDonagh they ran out winners by 11 points 3-11 to 1-6.

Best for Carnaross were  Peter Carpenter, Cian Gillic, Ian Donoghue and Conor Peate in defence, Michael  Brogan at midfield and John Carpenter,  John Ward, Shane Casserly and Dean Connell in attack.

Carnaross 3-20 Moynalty 0-7

Carnaross recorded a big victory over a weakened Moynalty team who were missing some of their regulars due to injury in the third round of the minor league.  It was the first meeting between the teams since they split as St. Ciarans in 2008.

The game was over as a contest early on following goals from Dean Connell and John Ward and after a succession of points from Shane Casserly and John Carpenter Carnaross went in a half time leading 3-11 to 0-4.

The tempo of the game slowed in the second half as Carnaross took the foot off the pedal.  However Carnaross still kept the scoreboard ticking over with scores coming from Charles Brogan and substitute Colm McDonagh to finish up 22 point winners.

Best for Carnaross were Michael Brogan, Cian Gillic, Ian Donoghue and Conor Peate in defence, Charles Brogan and Charles Dillon at midfield and John Carpenter, John Ward, Shane Casserly and Dean Connell in attack.

Nobber 0-14 Carnaross 3-8

Carnaross and Nobber played a close and exciting game with the lead changing several times before Carnaross eventually won by three points to qualify for the semi-finals of the minor league.

Nobber started the game very well and were in control in most areas of the field. They led after 20 minutes by four points and had a great chance of a goal to extend their lead. However the game changed when Mick Shaw in the Carnaross goals pulled of a great save from close range.  Carnaross moved the ball up the field quickly with a couple of long range passes and John Carpenter finished it off with a great goal. Both teams swapped scores from then until half-time with Nobber going in leading by a point, 0-8 to 1-4.

Nobber extended their lead in the early stages of the second half to three points. Carnaross kept plugging away and eventually they got their reward when following a pass from Shane Casserly, John Carpenter scored his second goal to level the match. Both team swapped points before Colm McDonagh scored a goal when he followed  a long ball into the square from John Carpenter to tap in from close range. Carnaross then scored another couple of points to extend their lead to five. However Nobber never gave up and scored the next two points but time ran out on them leaving Carnaross three point winners.

Carnaross 3-8 Killary Emmets 1-8

Carnaross who had already qualified for the semi-finals of the minor league prior to this game assured themselves of home advantage with a six point win over the Syddan and Castletown combination of Killary Emmets.

Dean Connell scored an early goal for Carnaross but Killary responded with a couple of points to leave just a point between the teams after 15 minutes. The teams then swapped points but Dean Connell scored his second goal of the game to leave the half time score 2-2 to 0-4.

Carnaross increased their lead early in the second half but a Killary goal with about 10 minutes remaining closed the gap to 3 points. Carnaross responded immediately when Dean Connell scored his third goal of the game following a pass from Paul Donoghue.  Colm McDonagh then scored two long range points to stretch the lead to 8 points.  Killary Emmets never gave up and scored the last two points of the game to leave the final score 3-8 to 1-8 in favour of Carnaross.

Carnaross 2-8 Oldcastle 0-12

Minor League Semi-Final (Division 5)

Carnaross defeated Oldcastle in a close and tense match following two late scores to qualify for the Minor Division 5 Final against Killary Emmets.

Oldcastle got a couple of early scores to take the lead but Charles Brogan settled the Carnaross nerves with two long range points. However Oldcastle kept up the pressure and took the lead again.  John Carpenter then scored a goal from close range following a quick free but Oldcastle got the two last scores to go in at half time leading by a point, 0-7 to 1-3.

Carnaross got an early boost in the second half when John Ward punched to the net following a free from John Carpenter. Oldcastle still continued to press and tried for a goal themselves but great work from the Carnaross defence kept them out. Oldcastle did manage to draw level with time nearly up however a superb long range point from John Carpenter followed by another point from Charles Brogan sealed the victory for Carnaross.

Carnaross 2-12 Killary Emmets 1-8

Carnaross produced a fantastic second half performance to overturn a six point deficit to claim the Minor League Division 5 title in Páirc Tailteann.

Killary Emmets playing with the aid of a stiff breeze dominated the early exchanges and got the first two scores of the first half. Carnaross got back on level terms after 15 minutes following points from Dean Connell and John Carpenter.  Dean Connell had a great chance to score a goal for Carnaross but the Killary keeper pulled of a great save to divert the ball around the post for a 45.  Killary then scored three points in a row before Shane Casserly got the last score of the half for Carnaross to leave them 0-5 to 0-3 behind at the break.

Killary got the first point of the second half and soon followed this with a goal when a shot for a point just dipped under the crossbar at the last moment. This put six points between the teams. However Carnaross began to dominate the game and with points from John Carpenter and Charles Brogan they reduced the lead to 4 points. Charles Brogan then scored a great goal for Carnaross following a passing movement which started in their own half.  John Ward scored a great equalizing point from long range and from them to the finish it was all one way traffic as Carnaross dominated in all areas of the field. Charles Brogan scored his second goal from close range and further points from Dean Connell, John Carpenter, Colm McDonagh and John Carpenter again to leave the final score 2-12 to 1-8 in favour of Carnaross.

Carnaross 2-10 Wolfe Tones 3-9

Carnaross playing with the aid of a breeze raced into an early first half lead following a succession of points from play. They could have been further ahead but missed a couple of great goal chances. The Wolfe Tones took control for the last ten minutes of the first half and scored two goals to lead at half time by 2-5 to 0-8.

Charles Dillon scored a goal early in the second half to level the game. Scores were hard to come by for the next 15 minutes. The Wolfe Tones scored another goal to reclaim the lead but almost immediately Charles Brogan scored a great goal for Carnaross to level the match again. Carnaross had chances to regain the lead but the Wolfe Tones due to the introduction of fresh legs finished the stronger scored two late points in injury time to secure the victory.

Best for Carnaross were Peter Carpenter, Michael Brogan and Shane Casserly in defence, Charles Brogan at midfield and John Ward in attack.

Carnaross 0-10 Drumconrath/Meath Hill 3-10

Minor Shield Semi-Final

Played in Carlanstown – 25/7/2010

Carnaross made a disappointing exit from the Minor Shield with the concession of three goals proving costly against Drumconrath/Meath Hill.

Things started well for Carnaross who raced into a three point lead after ten minutes with all three points coming from John Carpenter. Drumconrath/Meath Hill hit back with two points before a goal put them two in front.  Shane Casserly pulled one back for Carnaross but Drumconrath/Meath Hill scored the last two scores of the half to lead 1-4 to 0-4 at the break.

Shane Casserly hit the first score directly from the throw in, but Drumconrath/Meath Hill hit back with a goal and suddenly Carnaross found themselves five points behind.  John Ward scored a point from play for Carnaross but Drumconrath/Meath Hill once again responded strongly scoring 1-2 to take a nine point lead after forty minutes which finished the game as a contest. Both sides exchanged four points each in the last twenty minutes with Paul Donoghue and John Carpenter (3) hitting the target for Carnaross.
