Carnaross 0-8 Kilmainham 0-9

Junior D Championship

Played in Kells – 30/5/2010

Kilmainham scored a late point to snatch this junior D Game in Kells.

It was a close game all the way with scores hard to come by. The half time score was three points apiece, with the Carnaross scores coming from Patrick Smith, Paul Donoghue and John Ward.

With about ten minutes to go, Carnaross led by two points, 0-8 to 0-6, with the last Carnaross score coming from a long free from Ciaran McDonnell. Kilmainham then had a man sent off but it seemed to inspire them and they got the last three points of the game to run out one point winners.

Best for a disappointing Carnaross were Matthew O’Reilly in defence and John Ward and Shane Casserly in attack.

Carnaross 3-12 Moynalty 0-8

Junior D Championship

Played in Kells – 26/6/2010

Following a poor first half display, Carnaross turned things around after the break to run out comfortable winners over neighbours Moynalty.

Moynalty performed better in the first half with the aid of the breeze and led by two points at half time, 0-7 to 0-5, and could have been further in front but for a number of wides.

After the break Carnaross dominated throughout and restricted Moynalty to just one point. Three substitutes, Gavin Murphy, Paul Donoghue and Ollie Farrelly all hit a goal each to set Carnaross up for an easy win.

Carnaross 1-5 Meath Hill 1-8

Junior D Championship

Played in Nobber – 9/7/2010

A second-half comeback from Carnaross finished in disappointment after Meath Hill scored a goal with the last kick of the game.  However, the damage was done for Carnaross after a terrible first half where they failed to register any score.

The game was played in miserable conditions with heavy rain throughout. Meath Hill started brightest and quickly had a three point lead.  Carnaross failed to cause them much trouble in the opening half, but Colin Yore had a goal disallowed after the referee called a square ball, and shortly afterwards centre-back Peter Farrelly was unlucky to see his goal effort strike the post and Ciaran McDonnell sent the rebound wide.  Meath Hill added on four more points to lead 0-7 to 0-0 at half time.  Their lead could have been more but for three great saves from Shane McNiffe in the Carnaross goals.

The second half was much more productive for Carnaross as they put Meath Hill under pressure right from the start. A point each from Ciaran McDonnell, Shane Casserly, Colin Yore, Rory O’Connor and Ollie Farrelly put them right back into the game while the defence restricted Meath Hill to only one point. Corner-back Peter Farrelly popped up in the square to volley a loose ball to the net and the sides were level.  As Carnaross pushed on for the winning score it was Meath Hill who got the break and scored the late goal which was followed immediately by the final whistle.

Carnaross: Shane McNiffe; Peter Farrelly (1-0), Thomas Farrelly, Niall Smith; Cian Gillic, Peter Farrelly, Ben Carry; John Ward, Ciaran McDonnell (0-1); Shane Casserly (0-1), Colin Yore (0-1), Rory O’Connor (0-1); Tadgh Skelly, Ollie Farrelly (0-1),Enda Gillic; Subs: Damian McArdle for Tadgh Skelly; Conor Kenny for Colin Yore;
